RiAus Events

November 05, 2009 By: Birgit Boehm Category: General Print This Post Print This Post

The RiAus has recently opened, housed in the old Stock Exchange building, now the Science Exchange, at 55 Exchange Place, Adelaide. A hub for science in Adelaide, the RiAus concentrates on ‘bringing science to people and people to science’. It creates real and virtual spaces in which people can listen, talk and think about science in all its shapes and forms and develop innovative and accessible ways of engaging the general community, raising scientific awareness and lifting the level of debate on critical issues arising from science and technology.
You may be interested in the following events in our inaugural program:Small wonders: how microbes rule our world
Did you know that your currently carrying at least a kilo of bacteria around on (and in!) you at the moment? And that without these hitchhikers we’d get very sick, very quickly? Join us for an evening with author Idan Ben-Barak, author of Small wonders as he talks to Advertiser Science Reporter Clare Peddie about how different our lives might be without our microscopic friends. Thursday 12 November, 6.30-8pm, The Science Exchange
$10/7 (Members and concessions), booking through http://www.riaus.org.au/events/2009/november/small_wonders_how_microbes_rule_our_world.jsp

Australian Science Communicators Monthly
The South Australian branch of the Australian Science Communicators is about to reform, and the launch of the RiAus provides a splendid new meeting place. If you hold any job in science, technology, engineering or maths, and believe in the importance of spreading the word, join us to hear about plans for ASC-SA, catch a science show and take a sneak peek behind the scenes at the RiAus. The bar will be open and there will be plenty of opportunity for networking!
Free, booking though http://ascnovember.eventbrite.com/
